PATRIOTES ADVANCE TO NEXT ROUND IN OUA MEN'S HOCKEY
TROIS-RIVIÈRES, Que. - The No. 3 nationally-ranked UQTR Patriotes defeated the Concordia Stingers 4-2 in the elimination game of their best-of-three series, advancing to the OUA East semifinals.
The Stingers took a 1-0 lead late in the first period as Jesse Goodsell scored on the power play. Michael Blundon and Brad Gager drew assists on the play.
The Patriotes poured it on in the second period, scoring three consecutive goals. Maxime Levesque, Pierre-Alexandre Joncas and Etienne Bellavance-Martin put UQTR in front 3-1, a lead it would not relinquish.
Charles-Antoine Messier scored another power play goal for the Stingers to cut their deficit to one heading into the third period. But Levesque earned his second of the game in the third period, giving the Patriotes insurance they would not need.
The Patriotes will take on the Ryerson Rams in the OUA East semifinals in a best-of-three series.
