OUA M-HOCKEY ROUNDUP: GOLDEN HAWKS TAME LIONS IN OT
Laurier's Paul Bradley (pictured) of Calgary also completed a natural hat-trick in the game, scoring three goals, one in each period.
The Lions opened the match with a goal from Nathaniel Brooks (Richmond Hill, Ont.) midway through the first period. Bradley would respond late in the frame with his first of the match.
In the second period, Bradley got his second of the game at 6:31 and team captain Jean-Michel Rizk (Dunham, Que.) scored short-handed six minutes later. Clinton Pettapiece (Christina Lake, B.C.) notched his seventh of the year to give the visitors a 4-1 lead. York closed out the period with a power play marker from Mathew Martello (Maple, Ont.).
The third period saw York even the game out with two more goals early on. Bradley picked up his third goal at 13:05, but the Lions would respond less than two minutes later with a marker from Jaskirat Gill (Brampton, Ont.) to tie the game and send it into overtime.
Laurier's Voakes broke the stalemate to give the Golden Hawks their 15th win of the season. The purple and gold's record now stands at 15-6-2, while the Lions pick up the single point to move in to a tie for fifth place in the OUA West with an 11-10-2 record.
Ryan Daniels (Pickering, Ont.) faced 40 shots in net for the Hawks and stopped 35. York’s tandem of David Davenport (Bradford, Ont.) and David Blair (Ajax, Ont.) saw 39 shots and turned aside 33.
Laurier went 0-for-3 with the man-advantage while the Lions capitalized twice in six opportunities.
GUELPH 9, BROCK 0
At Guelph, the Gryphons routed the Brock Badgers 9-0.
Nine different Gryphons scored for Guelph, including Kris Belan, Edward Gale, Barrett Brook, Michael Nelson, Timothy Priamo, Thomas Kiriakou, Nathan Martine, Zach Lillie and Michael Kusy. Kiriakou led the Gryphons with a four-point night.
Guelph goaltender Scott VanBommel stopped all 19 shots he faced for the shutout win.
The Gryphons improved to 10-10-4, in sixth place in the OUA West. Brock falls to 9-14-1 and is two points ahead of the UOIT Ridgebacks for the eighth and final playoff spot. UOIT has two games in hand.
NIPISSING 3, RYERSON 2
At Ryerson, the Nipissing Lakers edged the host Rams 3-2.
Nipissing's Sam Hopewell scored a shorthanded goal 5:56 into the third period, breaking a 2-2 deadlock and ultimately giving the Lakers the victory.
Andrew Marcoux opened the scoring for Nipissing 3:04 after the opening face-off. Ryerson's Julian Zamparo tied the score at one before the close of the first period on the power play.
Marcoux struck again for his 20th goal of the season 18 seconds into the second period, but Ryerson again tied the game at 2-2. Troy Murray scored a shorthanded goal, his first of the season.
Nipissing pulled ahead for good in the third. The Lakers improved to 9-13-1 for sixth place in the OUA East. Ryerson is now 8-12-3 in seventh. Both Lakers and Rams are tied with 19 points.
