100th OUA conference game approaching for UOIT men�s hockey
OSHAWA, Ont. - When the Ridgebacks travel to Toronto this coming Saturday (November 27), it will mark the 100th OUA conference game in UOIT men’s hockey history. The Ridgebacks will celebrate the milestone mark at their next home game which is scheduled for Friday, January 7 against the Guelph Gryphons (7:30 p.m. – Campus Ice Centre).
Here are some of the highlights of the UOIT Ridgebacks men’s hockey program to date:
December 11, 2005 – Campus Ice Centre grand opening
January 26, 2006 – UOIT accepted as the 19th member of Ontario University Athletics (OUA)
February 5, 2006 - Marlin Muylaert announced as men’s hockey head coach
April 5, 2007 – Derrick Bagshaw and Justin Allen announced as UOIT’s first recruits
September 20, 2007 – Inaugural hockey rosters unveiled at Total Hockey Museum
September 23, 2007 – First exhibition game: UOIT defeated Ottawa 3-2 in a shootout (Bowmanville, Ont.)
October 13, 2007 – UOIT’s makes OUA debut, losing a 3-2 shootout to Queen’s – Shane Nolan scores the Ridgebacks first goal
November 11, 2007 – Ridgebacks pick up first win – UOIT defeated Waterloo 4-1 – Chris Chimienti scores the game winning goal
November 30, 2007 – UOIT defeats Western 3-2 in a shootout – OUA’s top ranked team
February 2, 2008 – Matt Mateja records UOIT’s first shutout in a 4-0 victory over York
June 19, 2008 – UOIT accepted as 52nd member of Canadian Interuniversity Sport
February 6, 2009 – Muylaert picks up his 200th CIS win
March 11, 2009 – Josh Vatri and Mike Noyes make the OUA all-rookie team
March 14, 2009 – Derrick Bagshaw named UOIT Athlete of the Year
November 4, 2009 – Kyle Wetering scores the Ridgebacks first hat-trick
February 12, 2010 – UOIT clinches first ever playoff berth
February 17, 2010 – UOIT defeated Western 2-1 in the Ridgebacks first playoff game
February 23, 2010 – Jason Guy is named to the OUA All-Rookie team as well and an OUA Second Team All-Star
April 9, 2010 – Nathan Spaling named UOIT Athlete of the Year
