JALBERT NAMED CHL'S SCHOLASTIC PLAYER OF THE YEAR
The announcement was made at the CHL awards ceremony, which took place in conjunction with the 2010 MasterCard Memorial Cup in Brandon, Manitoba.
"It is a really nice honour," said Jalbert. "It is certainly something wonderful that I will cherish for the rest of my life."
Nearly two months ago, the Hull, Que., native completed a four year Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) career with the Chicoutimi Saguenéens and was awarded the league's 2009-2010 Marcel Robert Trophy for his outstanding performance both on the ice and in the classroom.
The 20-year-old explained that his parents have always helped him remain focused in both his hockey and academic careers.
"I have had two parents that have helped me direct my attention to both areas," he said.
He added that his motivation to excel equally as much in his studies and in hockey stems from wanting to plan his future.
"We are not always certain whether we will have a future in hockey, so we have to plan ahead. It demands a good balance, and finding that balance is the most important part."
