NO. 5 PATRIOTES MOVE INTO TOP SPOT IN OUA EAST MEN'S HOCKEY
TROIS RIVIÈRES, Que. - The No. 5 nationally-ranked UQTR Patriotes defeated the Concordia Stingers 4-2 on Wednesday night to move into first place in the OUA East.
Concordia jumped out to a 1-0 lead 9:48 into the game as Peter James Corsi scored his fourth goal of the season.
The Patriotes pulled even less than two minutes later, as Francis Charland scored his 17th. The first period ended in a 1-1 deadlock.
It remained that way until the dying seconds of the middle period, as Olivier Donovan scored a power play goal to give UQTR a lead it would never relinquish.
Jean-Sebastien Breton increased the Patriotes advantage to 3-1 near the midway mark of the third period, and Felix Petit sealed the win with an empty netter.
Alexandre Monahan scored a power play goal for the Stingers with 10 seconds remaining in the game.
Etienne Bellavance-Martin earned three helpers for the Patriotes.
The Patriotes (17-3-1) now lead the No. 6 McGill Redmen (17-4-0) by one point in the race for top spot in the OUA East. Concordia dropped to 6-14-2.
